19-12-10: Red Shirt Update
Monday, December 20th, 2010The Red Shirts stage one of their bi-monthly demonstrations, held on the 10th and the 19th of each month in an attempt to secure the release of their leaders currently held by Thailand’s authorities. The current protests mark the end of the two-month occupation in April and May 2010 of large parts of Thailand’s capital Bangkok. The protests which where calling for fresh elections saw clashes between the authorities and the protesters in which over 90 people died. The “Red Shirt ” protesters are loyal to the former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra who was ousted in a military coup in 2006.

19-12-10: Red Shirt protester in Bangkok, Thailand, holds a portrait of Khattiya Sawasdipol who was shot on the 13th May at the intersection of Sala Daeng train station, he later died on the 17th of May 2010. Khattiya was suspended from his post as Major General of The Royal Thai Army after an inquest found him to be a supporter of the Red Shirts.
